JONATHAN GIVES PROMISING ASSURANCE IN DELTA STATE
The President Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians that his
administration would further work on providing peace and
security in all parts of the country.
The President together with the Governor of Delta State,
Emmanuel Uduaghan, and other prominent Nigerians, paid a
courtesy visit on the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozien
at his palace in Asaba, Delta State, Vanguard reports.
During his visit, Goodluck Jonathan gave the assurance that his
administration had always done what was best for the country
and its people.
“I want to re-assure you that as a party, we will do our best to
bring peace and security to the country, and fast-track economic
development in all parts of the country.”
According to him, he is seeking re-election because of his
commitment towards re-positioning the country in a positive way
amongst the comity of nations.
The President also reminded in his speech that on assumption of
office it was discovered that twelve states had no Federal
University, but his administration managed to correct this within
the past four years.
“We have tarred over twenty-five thousand kilometres of the thirty
six thousand kilometres (36, 000 km) Federal Roads and we
promise to complete the remaining ones and open up more
arterial roads when re-elected.”
Further Jonathan disclosed that over 90 per cent of narrow gauge
rails had been completed throughout the country and stressed the
recent achievements in the shipping industry.
“The implementation of the Nigerian content law in the oil industry
has improved the participation of Nigerians in the industry and the
implementation of our cabotage law with Nigerians now owning
ships and more Nigerians have been employed in the shipping
industry.”
“We also saw the need to establish Maritime University for high-
powered man-power development in the Maritime Sector; we are
moving the country forward.”
Earlier this year while addressing members of the Delta State
traditional council, the President pledged to complete the $16
billion gas city project before the end of his second tenure in
office. He assured that the gas city project which would be the
biggest oil and gas investment in Africa was very important to his
administration.
